Introductory e-Course to the Global Commons: a new challenge for a new world

Starting 1st May and lasting 3 weeks there will be an Introductory e-Course to the Global Commons.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, are pleased to announce the launch of the new Introductory e-Course to the Global Commons.

The term “global commons” refers to those resources that are shared by all of humanity such as the sky, the oceans or even the planet itself, and to a sum of various local and regional commons across the world. The term also reflects a philosophical approach strictly related to issues of environmental sustainability and human development aimed to a wise use of the earth for all living species, as well as for future generations.

The overall goal of the Course is to provide a general approach to the Commons, in order to facilitate the introduction of this concept into the work of the United Nations, various levels of governments and other entities. The Introductory e-Course to the Global Commons is a great opportunity offered to individuals interested in discovery this fascinating subject that, although new, will play a key role in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

The Introductory e-Course to the Global Commons is a non-moderated e-learning course. It will be offered free of charge and will be conducted in English through UNITAR Virtual Learning Environment. The estimated time to accomplishment is 2 to 3 weeks with an average study-time of 10 hours per week. After its successful completion, participants will be awarded with a Certificate of Participation issued jointly by UNITAR and the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College.
