The Smithsonian Commons Prototype launches today

on Fri, 06/18/2010 - 08:00

It has a new learning model that helps people with their "lifelong learning journeys," dedicated to stimulating learning, creation, and innovation through open access to Smithsonian research, collections and communities.

The purpose of this prototype is to help the Smithsonian community understand and discuss the attributes and benefits of the Smithsonian Commons in terms of its impact on real users. The prototype project was conceived as a rapid, research and development process to advance our understanding of the Smithsonian Commons, what its goals and benefits are, how to talk about it, and how to fund and build it.

The prototype includes 4 video stories exploring the impact and benefits of te Smithsonian Commons. I was particularly inspired by the "Millenial, " the story that shows how the Smithsonian Commons helps its content flow through the Internet, where it can be used and re-used on the sites that people visit every day. You can watch it here.
